Both Lou Marco and Tiny Carr were excellent referees but I always thought Marco was a little too keen on promoting himself. Still it was very sad to hear that his career was curtailed after being knocked down by a car in an accident near the Dale Martin office in Brixton. Both were little men but perhaps Carr had the edge in authority.
Max Ward also had quite a lengthy career and I remember him officiating for Paul Lincoln in the early 1960's. When he finally retired I am afraid I don't know.
Thank you The Ost from bringing back such wonderful memories.
I think I have a report on the money raised, no idea where it is though.
Did they raise much much money for Tiny?

Here's a Sam Rabin cartoon of Lou Marco
An article on Tiny Carr retiring:
The most dapper referee may have been Lou Marco:
Stan Rylands was reffing as early as 1961 and seemed to go right through the tv years?
I think the modern day referees actually have had longer tenures.
Lew Marco started in the early 30's and Tiny Carr I think started in 1938.
Lou Marco and Tiny Carr were around for long time.
