Such is the scale of the coincidence I see in today's news that I am wondering whether the Americans have transferred April Fools' Day to the Glorious Twelfth.
A couple of days after the death of Jim Harris who wrestled as Kamala, Senator Joe Biden has selected his running mate for vice-president: Kamala Harris.
This is on a par with the UK electorate voting in Ted Heath as Prime Minister on the back of wrestler Ted Heath becoming one of the Dennisons tag team.
I wonder who'll get the most views if you google Kamala Harris?
I don't think this can become one of our longer lists, though no harm in adding Spencer Churchill. They always maintained it was, oh, is, his real name. But the more they maintain, the less I believe.
Any more?
Mexican El Santo and his son El Hijo Santo both became involved in politics at a local level
The late Tony Halme (Ludwig Borga) sat in the Finnish Parliament.
Atsushi Onita followed the two previously mentioned wrestlers into the Japanese parliament, he found fame with Frontier Marshall Arts Wrestling a promotion noted for its gimmick matches such as exploding rings , barb wire rope matches etc.
we can also add Hiroshi Hase to the list he became a minister for education in Japan.
Antonio Inoki Japanese wrestler who had a match with Mohammed Ali entered the Japanese parliament. He negotiated with Sadam Hussein for the release of hostages and given credibility by Hussein because he was a wrestler
We want blood!
Lib Dem MP and all round wally Lembit Opik did some stuff with Welsh Wrestling
The most famous politician and possibly the only wrestler to appear on National currency is Abraham Lincoln. Also inducted into the wrestling Hall of Fame
Good knowledge Saxonwolf!
And Hack, was he really born with that name in 1929?
Spencer Churchill is reported as born in May 1929 (4th or 14th, sources differ). This would make him 91 and one of our oldest living wrestlers/
"...This word Kamala, at the heart of the current topic: does anyone know what it means?..."
Kamala is the name used for a yellow dye, made from the powder of a type of Lotus tree.
Amala and Kamala were two mythical wild children, raised by wolves, in Indian legend (same as Romulus and Remus in Roman legends, I guess).
I certainly didn't have the likes of Black Butcher Johnson in mind when I started this, but, as ever, it has produced an interesting list of otherwise unconnected wrestlers. And some intriguing posters courtesy of Main Mask.
If Spencer Churchill was born about 1925 as I am guessing, would he have been likely really to have been called Spencer Churchill at that time?
This word Kamala, at the heart of the current topic: does anyone know what it means?
Yes, and Dennis Mitchell and Johnny "Legs" Valentine
If we’re talking about wrestlers who were also politicians, such as Bert Royal and Al Hayes mentioned above, then certainly Len Ironside was a councillor in Aberdeen, and wasn’t John Cox one in York?
The whole thing's become a wee bit spurious but at least it's a chance to see some lovely old wrestling posters. My favourite politician was the late Tony Benn so perhaps I could add King Benn to this tenuous list.
Going back to the start, if Joe Biden could do it (and the polls are looking good) and with his advancing years, you could have a scenario where Kamala Harris could be president by default. Imagine a black woman being president of the USA
Well i obviously mis-read it. I thought the idea was to find those whose names would Google an equivalent of another famous person. We now have a list of wrestlers with politicians names, yet again.
So if that's where we are let's not forget Dave Cameron.
I thought it was the full name we were looking for not just the surname.
none jump to mind but Bert Royal and I believe Al Hayes both served a local councillors, Jesse Venura was a governor in Minnesota and Glen Jacobs (Kane in WWE) is mayor of Knoxville Tennessee, I am sure this list can be added too.
