Did anyone ever see a catchweight contest involving the afore mentioned men? Both Finlay and Jones participated in catchweight contests against the heavyweights but apart from a few posters i've seen online advertising Roach .v. Jones i've no knowledge of a Finlay .v. Bridges or Roach contest or Jones .v. Bridges bout. Dave Finlay certainly faced the heavyweights in the European tournaments, all the way up to battles against Big Otto.

Couldn't a better picture of Haystacks have been used in Martin Cambell's above article than the one featured of him flat on his back in the ring. That picture looks like he's being prepared for his funeral. A bit tasteless i think. (and before the comments start i know the picture was taken following Haystacks defeat by Paul "Big Show" Wight).

Having read some of the contributions by Gernot Frieberger perhaps it would be a good idea for Heritage to give Gernot his own area or page for which to add articles, comments, discussions and pictures of the classic European Professional Wrestling scene, after all many of our lads wrestled there and Gernot's knowledge would give us more insight into an area that some British fans know little about. I for one would like to learn more. During the 1970s/80s there was an American pro wrestling magazine i used to subscribe to via "RINGSPORT" editor Evan R. Treharne specifically to read the 2/3 pages of European tournament results, this was my only source of that information at the time, if there were other sources i didn't know of them.

Here's a video featured on "The Kenny Everett Television Show" on ITV back in 1980. Unless you're a rock music fan you probably won't have heard of the singer Ellen Foley. The track's called 'Stupid Girl' and features none other than Messrs Steve Viedor & Wayne Bridges in posing as bodybuilders.

Although i'm still not enamoured with the new Heritage format i thought i would let you all know that new podcasts featuring both Tony St.Clair & Marty Jones have been uploaded to Youtube. The link as follows https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yFnUivbu00 , if that doesn't work just type in "Wrestling With Johners Podcast" and go to his aptly named legends section. Not to take anything away from the brilliant Marty Jones but Tony's recognition as been a long time overdue in my opinion.

Does anyone have any information on the British Wrestling magazine "Wrestling World"? I have a couple of issues in my collection but know very little about it compared to 'The Wrestler.' Both magazines appear to have begun life in 1961. Whereas The Wrestler recognised the Lord Mountevans titles and champions the Wrestling World recognised the alternative organisation The British Wrestling Federation titles and their champions. I don't seem to be able to trace anything about the publication. Was it short lived? Was it the brainchild of TBWF to promote their stars and company? Apart from pro wrestling there were also pages dedicated to other combat sports amateur wrestling, martial arts and boxing. Any information would be appreciated.

Tomorrow April 22nd will be the anniversary of the passing of another wrestling great and one of my heroes Canadian Mighty John Quinn. It just seems like yesterday that I was young lad of 12-13 when he first appeared on our television screens on World Of Sport way back in 1979 ranting his anti British opinions to the enraged ringsiders. Being young and easily influenced I went along with Max Crabtree’s clever marketing and i initially hated the ex lumberjack and couldn’t wait to see Big Daddy hopefully beat him. Following Quinn’s defeat and subsequent departure I was over the moon when Kent Walton announced during a bout featuring Spiros Arion that Quinn was returning to our shores to menace us once again. The following are items from my own collection. Please feel free to comment about MJQ or add pictures articles of your own, but most of all enjoy. RINGSPORT 1979

The following articles concern the editor of "RINGSPORT" Evan.R. Treharne and the magazine's conception. I began subscribing to Ringsport in the very late 1970s, for those who don't know it was a bi- monthly wrestling magazine , i'm not sure if it may have started out as a monthly publication in the 1960s but in those days Ringsport covered both Wrestling and Boxing! Evan was a cracking fella and i can always picture him at his stand as you went through the doors of Sophia Gardens Pavilion in Cardiff (now long gone) Evan was a very friendly chap, and was often accompanied by his son to venues where they sold Ringsport along with Joint Promotion's Wrestling Scene, American wrestling publications, rosette's, scarfs, pictures etc. His office was based in Caerphilly, very near the famous castle and i would occasionally write to him asking questions concerning wrestlers and the sport in general to which he would always reply. His hero was Bulldog Bill Garnon from Fishguard who also contributed articles to Ringsport discussing topics from a bygone era. Towards the end of Ringsport Evan relied on the fans for information as ill health afflicted him. That and the fact that some promoters had barred him from selling at their venues, which upset him greatly, especially as he was helping to sell their merchandise. Enjoy the articles, Evan was a goodun.'

The late 1970s early 80s saw Max Crabtree at his peak as a promoter importing many foreign stars one of these imports was The Sheik formerly Billy White Wolf. Arriving at the latter end of 1979 both The Sheik and Spiros Arion's television exposure was halted by the near 3 month ITV television strike. Subsequently The Sheik was only seen once by the British television wrestling fans against Lenny Hurst. In Tony Earnshaw's latest book "we shall not be moved" Tony states that The Sheik was unreliable and only fulfilled half of his appearances during his brief tour during which on one occasion he was defeated 2-1 by The Dynamite Kid. He looked a powerful heavyweight which is why i can't understand why he was pitted on occasion against much lighter smaller opponents such as Mal Sanders and the like, which at least on paper would seem a mismatch. Anyway enjoy the articles. "The Wrestler" January 1970. Again "The Wrestler"

The following items are from my own collection over the years of Kent Walton, an utter professional who made our sport believable, a commentator with class who never resorted to cheapen professional wrestling by using wise cracks. He was the Reg Gutteridge/Harry Carpenter of wrestling. From the December 1968 edition of "The Wrestler."

From August 1967 editon of "The Wrestler" comes a report of the Bholu brothers tour of Blighty. In some quarters regarded as the best in the world the show attended by the magazine's correspondent appears to have been a bit disappointing.

I'm going to start by saying coincidence/fate/serendipity is a strange thing. Before reading Saxonwolf's upload about Shozo's sad passing i had been planning on uploading the items below for this very day for the past fortnight. I was sonly 3 years old when Shozo toured Britain back in 1968/69 but growing up i read about him and his achievements. For Anglo to state Shozo's importance to wrestling was even greater than that of Antonio Inoki says everything. The following article was taken from the January 11th edition of the TVTimes. RIP Shozo Kobayashi.

I just thought that i would begin a section for fans who have some wrestling trivia but don't know where to include it on the site, be it a photograph or article. Below is my first entry. From a March 1969 edition of the TV Times came a section dedicated to cooking with the stars which included Mr and Mrs Pallo.
