Les Kellett could be compared to the tennis player Mansour Bahrami. Bahrami is 68 and plays in the senior doubles but his matches at Wimbledon during the 2nd week are always the most entertaining to watch. He plays the same trick shots and cracks the same jokes but still I laugh out loud at his antics as indeed I did when ever Les was wrestling on the Tv.

According to the ITV wrestling site Mick Mcmanus did indeed contest a Wednesday night wrestling bout on the 16th of December 1970 against Dave Barrie. Interestingly the same wrestlers also fought on a Friday which was on New Years Day 1971.

Thank you for putting up the posters, they’ve brought back lots of memories. I remember that Honey Boy Zimba was a a no show against Adrien Street as he’d supposedly been in a car crash.

Sadly the Empire Theatre was before my time in Inverness but I did attend some of the Rose Street Hall bills in the 1970’s. Jackie Pallo also organised a couple of shows in Inverness at the social club of a local football ground but can’t remember if it was at the Caley or Clachnacuddin.

Although I’d heard of Black Butcher Johnson I hadn’t realise he was an actor. I believe Johnny Kwango and Butcher Johnson were half-brothers and shared the same Mother (Irene Howe).

On the televised tag bout against Mcmanus/Logan he was partnered by his manager George Gillette.

Prior to COVID The British Film Institue (BFI) archive seemed to have some ITV wrestling bouts available to view at their London HQ. One of which is the Rikki Starr-Steve Haggerty bout from 1973 which was shown in the short lived Thursday lunch time slot on ITV.

According to newspaper reports Mick Mcmanus and Eddie Capelli were involved in a car crash on Nov 30th 1964 in Hillingdon. Capelli required 16 stitches in a head wound and Mcmanus had a leg injury which required 14 stitches and kept him out of the ring until just before Xmas.

Jackie Pallo did a couple of shows in Inverness. It was held in a social club and the ceiling was very low which meant they had to be careful when doing certain holds. I believe Adrian Street may of been one of the other wrestlers. I also remember a young lad in a wheelchair turned up and due to the restricted space around the ring they had a problem putting him at the front so Jackie Pallo arranged for two tables to be put together at the back and got the security men to lift the chair onto the tables.

Apparently Ski Hi Lee was in a TV bout against Mike Marino on Cup Final day in 1963. According to the Itv wrestling website this replaced one of the advertised bouts.

I never saw him wrestle live but his ringmanship shone through on his televised appearances. R.I.P Mighty John Quinn

I believe Billy White Wolf (Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissy) is still alive and wrestled in the UK from 1969
