According to the ITV wrestling site Mick Mcmanus did indeed contest a Wednesday night wrestling bout on the 16th of December 1970 against Dave Barrie. Interestingly the same wrestlers also fought on a Friday which was on New Years Day 1971.

Although I’d heard of Black Butcher Johnson I hadn’t realise he was an actor. I believe Johnny Kwango and Butcher Johnson were half-brothers and shared the same Mother (Irene Howe).

Prior to COVID The British Film Institue (BFI) archive seemed to have some ITV wrestling bouts available to view at their London HQ. One of which is the Rikki Starr-Steve Haggerty bout from 1973 which was shown in the short lived Thursday lunch time slot on ITV.

According to newspaper reports Mick Mcmanus and Eddie Capelli were involved in a car crash on Nov 30th 1964 in Hillingdon. Capelli required 16 stitches in a head wound and Mcmanus had a leg injury which required 14 stitches and kept him out of the ring until just before Xmas.

Apparently Ski Hi Lee was in a TV bout against Mike Marino on Cup Final day in 1963. According to the Itv wrestling website this replaced one of the advertised bouts.

I never saw him wrestle live but his ringmanship shone through on his televised appearances. R.I.P Mighty John Quinn

Choosing just one wrestleris very hard but if pushed I’d go for Billy Two Rivers. Not only for his wrestling tales but also being brought up in a First Nation community.

I can’t see any mention of the Borg twins (Ignatious and Tony) who were apparently very good solo wrestlers before teaming up as tag team partners. There was also Tibor and Peter Szakacs who were originally from Hungary befpre they both settled in the Uk.
