I think that Pete Roberts tagged with fellow Judoka, Judo Alf Marquette early in his career. Pete Roberts, was a good clean worker who had some fine clashes over the years.

Mark Rocco clearly made an everlasting impression on the wrestling world. I would call him a pioneer for sure, he changed British wrestling for good. Today, others now follow in his famous footsteps. Sad that he was taken relatively young, it makes you realise just how much those lads in the squared circle gave to all of us over the years.

Tally Ho Kaye, was great in his time. He helped to train many wrestlers including Rip Rawlinson for his Royal Albert Hall match against Golden Ace, John Naylor.

Kent Walton was the voice of wrestling. He was very good at building a specific persona around the different wrestlers of the day.

Rollerball gets to grips with an Alfa Romeo!

A good read from Eddie Rose, always enjoy reading about his time and opponents in the ring.

Rollerball Mark Rocco, was a real pioneer for British wrestling. He changed the sport in a positive way. When interviewed, he came across as nice guy who cared a great deal about the sport that made him famous. There will never be another Rollerball, he was unique.

I remember reading that L’Ange Blanc, had success wrestling in France. Did Bob Kirkwood ever tag with Wayne Bridges?

Alan Dennison was good in either role. He came across as a genuinely nice fellow, when he SOLD for the inexperienced Dynamite Kid In a bout. His ring persona whether heel, or blue eye worked. Distinctive, with his shaven head and leather wrist protectors.The shaven head a perfect ploy for slipping out of headlocks, according to Kent Walton. And the one strap leotard, which lent itself perfectly to the Strongman Moniker. When Dennison decided to dish out the rough stuff, the strap on his leotard would be lowered. And Kent Walton would comment, “Dennison now enraged with McManus for blind side of the ref tactics, now it’s payback time “! All in all, a great grappler taken far too young.

I’ve got this bout on dvd, it’s a great match with a superb ending.

I remember watching the televised match Blu Buchanan versus Danny Collins. It was a good match.

A real piece of history here, great line up of wrestlers, at the Royal Albert Hall. Doesn’t really get much better than this. Wrestling fans would pay good money to see their favourite wrestler in action at a top venue.

Judging by photos taken on the evening when HRH The Duke of Edinburgh attended the Royal Albert Hall, I think he thoroughly enjoyed the whole evening. In the company of some fantastic wrestlers.

Bert Royal always delivered in his bouts, and he knew exactly what the fans wanted. He retired at the right time in my opinion, after a glittering career in the ring. Mick McManus, Steve Logan, Les Kellett, Jackie Pallo, Johnny Saint, all timed it right with their retirement from the squared circle. Each one of the named wrestlers providing their own unique brand of wrestling skills. Sad thing is, that age catches up with all of us.
