I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before. The Grantham Journal 1st May 1959 has an article that Peter Gotz, who had won "wrestling's equivalent to the Londsale belt" in 1910, had donated the belt to Joint Promotions.

Ted Beresford was hardly anyone's right hand man, he was a man in his own right. Although often in partnership with Norman Morrell he was a Director in Morrell-Beresford Promotions. He promoted independent of Morrell in some halls, including Victoria Hall, Halifax Victoria Baths, Nottingham, Nottingham Ice Rink, Drill Hall, Lincoln Festival Inn, Trowell. There were three separate companies: Norman Morrell Promotions, Morrell-Beresford Promotions and Ted's Globe Promotions, He formed Globe Promotions in the Second World War, using the Government's Holiday at Home Scheme and was promoting in Nottingham in 1945. He was well in with those who were to become Joint Promotions from the start and in 1949 formed the British Wrestling Promoters Association with Norman Morrel, George De Relwyskow,Wryton and Dale-Martin.

Replying to Mike Hallinan: It would be very useful to discover a date of birth, but do you know if his name was Michael O'Sullivan? We haven't got much for Ron to work on. I think the Blackfriars Sept 1937 match was more likely a team match, not a tag match, as it's twelve years before the date Ron found for the first UK tag match and a month before the first in the USA. On 24th February 1938 Mike wrestled Douglas Clark at Nelson for Clark's British Empire title. Clark won when Mike retired injured in the fourth round. Replying to John Shelvey If he started pro in 1933, even if he was in his late twenties it's not unlikely he could be around for the odd match in the 1950s, and even the outlier 1960, still billed as heavyweight champion of Ireland.

In his early days he wrestled under his name of Michael Gale. On two programmes recently I've seen him listed as Michael Gay. He must have been happy about that.

They paid for a night of wrestling, and that's what they got. Judging by the success of LDN over twenty years fans must feel they get value for money. There was no deception, There was never any suggestion that Kendo would be wrestling. The appearance of Kendo Nagasaki was a bonus, not even advertised on the main poster for the event. LDN are a successful and well established company. If they can fill the Fairfield Halls then they must be doing something to satisfy their customers. But I can't see it from this poster. Mark Reynard's it says nothing comment sums it up. Maybe it says LDN can't be sure who will turn up on the night. Or they get a good price for posters that can be used in multiple venues. This is no way of developing name recognition of either main eventers or future stars. Or maybe we are missing something and Sanjay will give us an insight into this form of marketing.

Anglo Italian: This tells me he already had some kind of arrangement with Wryton and Billy Riley. Very likely Anglo Italian. In 1949 Morrell was secretary of the British Wrestlers Promoters Association and the other members were: • Norman Morrell • George De Relwyskow • Ted Beresford (Globe Promotions) • Dale Martin Promotions • Wryton Promotions In 1946 Morrell had imposed a closed shop of wrestlers working for him prevented working for other promoters within a 10 mile limit of his halls. I don't see how he could have done this in isolation. If he was doing it others would be doing it too.
