Remember vividly at Liverpool Stadium around 1975/76 one of Max's tournaments, a very big heavyweight being unmasked as referee Ken Lazenby. What a shock! Anyone experience something similar?

I'm not talking about one off's but established Promoters.I believe there were quite a few.Orig Williams worked on his own shows normally as El Bandito but in the Welsh shows often used his own name.He also wrestled for other Promoters.Saw(http://Promoters.Sa) him at Liverpool Stadium for All Star( then Wrestling Enterprises) .There were plenty of other Promoters who still wrestled.Can(http://wrestled.Ca) anyone name some more?

I think it comes down to what suited your lifestyle and committments.Certainly pro's and con's for both.Joi(http://both.Jo)nt could offer more chance of t.v exposure.Als(http://exposure.Al)o with established regular venue's there may have been a more regular wage.Howe(http://wage.How)ver,if there was a difference of opinion with a Promoter, being a cartel it could have affected your earning power. Independents could offer a variety of possibly newer venue's and many Promoters to work for. Although a lesser chance of t.v. exposure.

For me it has to be Kendo but Adrian Street and Rikki Starr were not far behind. Liked the way Kendo tried to enter the arena covertly but when he couldn't he always stayed in character.Who did others admire most?

I always arrived about an hour to an hour and a quarter early to see the wrestlers come in.I found it fascinating to see them as they really are.To (http://are.To)me it was an integral part of the evenings entertainment.Alt(http://entertainment.Al)hough not an avid autograph collector I did enjoy chatting to the wrestlers who were prepared to engage. Early to mid seventies great iconic days in wrestling.

They did for me definately.Loved all of Kendo's Managers, particulary George.By the time George got through his pre-bout spiel the heat level was through the roof before the bout even started. Fantastic microphone skills. Also enjoyed Charlie 'the Gent',Princess Paula ,Jamie Barringtonand and many more I've forgotten about. For me they spiced up the evening but they probably were not for everybody.

I recall Kendo at Liverpool Stadium taking on Count Bartelli and Steve Veidor as a tag bout.Kendo stating he doesn't need a tag partner I can beat them both myself.Kendo winning 2-1.Also,Martin Conroy when as MC would give a considerably lighter wrestler a fall start. He did it one night with an Asian heavyweight who outweighed his opponent by a considerable amount. The heavyweight lost 2-0.

For me it was perfectly acceptable to have a clean bout on every bill but every bout no.I enjoyed a good dust up like Dynamite Kid vs Rocco or Howes vs Kendo. Other bouts such as Street vs Breaks, hard and heavy but with no particular heel or babyface but just inside the rules. Also enjoyed the odd comedy bout. For me,variety made a good bill. What was other members preference?

That's an easy call for me.Of all the bouts I saw live, a match between Count Bartelli and Steve Veidor for Bartelli's Commonwealth heavyweight title around 1972/73 at Liverpool Stadium. Bartelli holding on to his title 2-1.A fantastic display of technical wrestling. It still stands out in my mind to this day.

On another thread we discussed Mike Marino defending a title after turning sixty but surely there may have been others who did likewise.Count Bartelli retired at a reported 63 years old but not sure if he still held the Commonwealth heavyweight title at this time. Can anyone confirm this? Also,Alan Colbeck could be another candidate.

Would loved to have met Bobby' the brain' Heenan. The guy was so multi-talented with razor sharp wit.He originally got into the business by helping wresters into the arena with their bags I read some time ago. When he was trained as a wrestler he was billed as Bobby 'pretty boy' Heenan. Later became a 'heel' manager.Eventually progressing to commentating alongside Gorilla Monsoon and others. Then he and Gorilla Monsoon would present WWF shows.Bobby failing to see any skullduggery and Gorilla seemingly disgusted by the foul moves. I can further remember him presenting a wrestling show alone with a comical twist to it.I can then remember him moving over to WCW as show presenter.A very versatile man.

There seemed to be two very different types of ring. There were the permanently assembled boxing rings and the much smaller 'assemble for the show' rings.I attended mainly Liverpool stadium where the ring at 24 feet from post to post was believed to be the largest in the country. Also Belle View had a similar size ring.I imagine other boxing stadia around the country had a similar size ring. The smaller rings looked about 14 footers but looked to be better equipped to land on.I much preferred the large ring but I suppose it's what you were used to. The added attraction to boxing rings was the illuminated ring lights so most of the hall lights could be turned off. This effect could not be used on the assemble for the show rings.Interested in other members opinion.
