On another thread we discussed Mike Marino defending a title after turning sixty but surely there may have been others who did likewise.Count Bartelli retired at a reported 63 years old but not sure if he still held the Commonwealth heavyweight title at this time. Can anyone confirm this? Also,Alan Colbeck could be another candidate.

Would loved to have met Bobby' the brain' Heenan. The guy was so multi-talented with razor sharp wit.He originally got into the business by helping wresters into the arena with their bags I read some time ago. When he was trained as a wrestler he was billed as Bobby 'pretty boy' Heenan. Later became a 'heel' manager.Eventually progressing to commentating alongside Gorilla Monsoon and others. Then he and Gorilla Monsoon would present WWF shows.Bobby failing to see any skullduggery and Gorilla seemingly disgusted by the foul moves. I can further remember him presenting a wrestling show alone with a comical twist to it.I can then remember him moving over to WCW as show presenter.A very versatile man.

There seemed to be two very different types of ring. There were the permanently assembled boxing rings and the much smaller 'assemble for the show' rings.I attended mainly Liverpool stadium where the ring at 24 feet from post to post was believed to be the largest in the country. Also Belle View had a similar size ring.I imagine other boxing stadia around the country had a similar size ring. The smaller rings looked about 14 footers but looked to be better equipped to land on.I much preferred the large ring but I suppose it's what you were used to. The added attraction to boxing rings was the illuminated ring lights so most of the hall lights could be turned off. This effect could not be used on the assemble for the show rings.Interested in other members opinion.

I can remember quite vividly Mick McManus as a co-commentator but did anybody perform this role?

I think the general presentation was vastly different. I found some of the indies may have pushed the gimmick side more than the Joints. Some indies posters were more eye-catching.Wildman of Borneu,32 stone Klondyke Bill, the Assassins with studded belts etc. Also, the Women wrestlers were used more frequently. However,I can only talk about the indies shows I attended. Some the other side of the country may have been more Joint aligned. Your opinions please.

Pretty sure it must have been exported abroad. The C.W.A. in Germany seemed to have a rounds system.

I think I would have to go for the 1966 Kendo/Bartelli unmasking at Hanley.

Have attended shows a quite a few times in a theatre or cinema and found the atmosphere rather flat.If the stage was seated it wasn't too bad but if if it was only seated one side in the permanent seats it was an eerie sort of atmosphere. If there was a balcony it was usually too far away to make any difference. However, there were possibly plenty of places where it was a great success.Your thoughts please.

It would still have some appeal but not to the same extent.I loved the wrestlers with great gimmicks,Pallo,Street,Starr, Kendo,Kellett,Billy Two Rivers and so many more. It added so much to the entertainment value.Would it have been the box office it was in the sixties without them?I don't think so.Your opinions please.

Was it Kendo's idea or was it the Promoters idea? Was the reason to get heat and also give Kendo a platform to express himself through George? Your thoughts please.

Unfortunately I never had the opportunity to see him live but would like to have done. At six feet three and close to twenty stones must have been a formidable sight. I can vaguely remember a late night mid-week t.v. bout versus Kendo Nagasaki with Kendo exiting the ring victorious and Ian laying prone on the canvas seemingly with a leg injury.Guessing it was about early seventies. Was he a good crowd puller?

For me probably Inoki closely followed by Andre the Giant and Antoninno Rocca. All great draws.

For me because I loved watching flamboyant charismatic wrestlers I would have to choose '' Dazzler Joe Cornellius'' . What a great talent years ahead of his time.
