I have recently read of an accident where two wrestlers got injured. Does anyone have a report of the car accident that put Norman Walsh out of action for some time, please?

We seem to still be getting duplicate posts. Perhaps it is time to remind people what we found out a little while ago. Log in first, before you make your first post, or it will be duplicated.

I know it isn't just me ,because I have seen other posts duplicated lately. The last 3 posts that I have made have come up twice. Do we have a problem on posting?

Following my request on a previous thread, can I please ask if anyone has information on the real name or place of birth of the above? Thank you.

We have had many strange sights reported on this site, but how many of you have seen a Handicap Knock out tournament? We had 2 such bills at Newcastle in my early years, but I just wondered how widespread this type of evening was.

This article was in the Eastern Daily Press yesterday. Those of you of a more modern persuasion may find it interesting. It looks like some of the Knight family of Norwich will be involved. They have done wrestling documentaries before.

For the last few times, when I have gone to log in to post, my email address has not come up automatically, and when I type it in, it is rejected the first time and accepted on the second try. Anyone else had similar?

Also whilst searching the Newcastle results, I came across 2 names that I thought were of interest. First one was a one off appearance on 4/8/1956 of one named Al Gutteridge.Any relation to you know who? Secondly for Main Mask. 4 appearances in 1956 of Masked Radak. Do who know anything of this wrestler?

Cocky Chick Knight I saw Chick Knight a few times at Newcastle in ,I think, 1948/9. A big bulky bustling sort of wrestler, never scientific, but strong and awkward to handle, and in the later years, always prone to heat up the audience a little before his usual disqualification. Nothing particularly stands out in my memory of Chick, regarding his wrestling style, favourite holds etc.except for the above. BUT the promoters must have thought well of him as a drawing card , because at Newcastle in 1948/9, (My first period of going there ), he faced the following top line regulars:- Jack Pye Bert Asiratti Ernest Baldwin Ken Davies Hassan Ali Bey Bill Benny and Wally Seddon. 2 European and British Heavyweight Champions, the King of the Mat, Possibly the strongest man in the world and a couple of hard men. And that is only the promoters advertising. Prior to 1948 he was a regular visitor to Newcastle and I think that possibly during the war he must have been in the services somewhere up North. The first bout at Newcastle that I can find is against Anaconda ,on 20/5/1939.there were 4 more visits in that year. No appearances in 1940 or 1941,he re-appeared losing to George Clark on 18/4/1942. Could this have been service abroad or elsewhere in the U K ? There were 2 bouts by Don Knights in June and August 1941, but I don't know if this is connected. During 1943/45 he was there almost every 2 weeks ,so I presume that he was posted up north or moved to live up there. The last bout that I can find at Newcastle is a loss to Charlie Green in February 1950.

Plea to Ron. If you have time to find it, do you have a bill for 18/5/1946 please? No 1946 bills showing on gallery.

This is something that everyone can have a go at. What is the most unexpected, unusual, entertaining or different thing that you have ever seen happen in a wrestling ring? With a time span of up to 50 years we should get some wide ranging answers. I will start you off with 2 things that I remember from my youth. Please remember this was the early 1950's. Lord Mount-Evans rules had perhaps just started. The first was when The Ghoul was fighting an opponent ,who's name I can't remember. As usual in those days the referee got the wrestler in a corner facing the ropes. First he ran his hand over the soles of the boots to check that they were smooth, then he ran his hands down the wrestler's back to check for oil. When turned round he checked the chest, arms then hands. Les Kellett was the referee and he was always strict. When he got to The Ghoul's hands , something was said and the big man complained bitterly. The second was despatched to the dressing rooms and came back with the biggest pair of scissors that I remember having seen at that time. Les then proceeded to cut the fingernails, and you could see bits of nail flying off. No doubt it was all pre-arranged but to me it was unexpected and definitely unusual. The second time was from a bout between Abdul the Turk and Jack Pye. As usual Abdul came to the ring first with his prayer mat and compass. Set everything up ,facing towards Mecca, and Jack got into the ring went to his corner and lent back on the ropes. Abdul was on his knees, started his ritual and on the second time that his arms went into the air Jack flew across the ring and kicked the mat out of the ring onto the ground. The fight started there and then without waiting for the bell. Once again unexpected and unusual for those days. Right that's my two starters , now let's hear some of yours from later years.

I was interested to see the name of Mike De Metre on one of the bills on the "Beech" thread. The bill was from New Brighton, 12/4/39. I saw Mike Demitre (I'm sure it's the same man) at Newcastle in the 1950's. He only came to Newcastle the one time when I was going, but I remember him because he was one of the several that I showed the way to Newcastle Central Station. In those days he was still trim, perhaps on the 15 stone mark, and the way that he talked, very conscious of his physique. I would say a very capable wrestler, at the time able to hold his own with the heavyweights, but just did not have the sparkle to excite me overmuch.
